IEF at Rio+20

Andreas Vatsellas
Rio de Janiero, June 2012

RIO+20 started and we are all participating in many different events, dialogues and discussions!

IEF president Arthur Dahl gave a talk on one of the side events organized by the Earth Charter "Exploring synergies between faith values and education for sustainable development"

He mentioned that it is natural for the Baha'i Faith to work for sustainable development as the main purpose of the Baha'i Faith is to bring about unity of mankind and that we are trying to build a spiritual foundation for an ever advancing civilization. In the Baha'i Writings it says "Take from this world only to the measure of your needs and forgo that which exceedeth them". "We are trustees of the planet's resources..."

We see human experience as essentially spiritual, he said. We need to engage all the masses, poor and rich, Justice should be the ruling principle. There has to be trustworthiness, also between the countries. We should reflect on what we need in this world while taking into account the resources of the planet. Every individual should feel empowered!

The IEF has also sponsored the BIC side event on "Eliminating the extremes of wealth and poverty", that was full of people.

We are also preparing for the actual side event of IEF that will take place on the 21st of June!

It is such a great experience to be able to work with so many people sharing their view on different aspects of sustainable development and somebody could really see how the Revelation of Baha'u'llah is reflected ever more evidently in people's ideas and perception!

Many greetings from Rio!!
