Investigation of reality happens within frameworks

Unit 2: 8-14 Sep

I think it is also helpful to understand that science operates within frameworks that consists of beliefs, assumptions, values, methods and approaches, among other things. The framework within which science operates shapes the observations and conclusions that it generates.

Religion, as another system of knowledge, does the same - it operates within a framework to make observations and conclusions. The two frameworks have some necessary differences, but for science and religion to be in harmony, the two frameworks of science and religion cannot be inconsistent but must be complementary.

I feel it is important to better understand how these two systems work on their own and with each other. And by gaining deeper insights into these, we may be able to make new observations and conclusions that draw on both frameworks to identify new or more effective solutions. So this is what I am thinking a lot about in relation to the current stage in this course.

The idea of science and religion operating within frameworks also helps us engage in conversations where the observations and conclusions about reality may differ and in some cases be irreconcilable.  Discussing at the level of assumptions and beliefs may be a more productive conversation than debating differences in conclusions.
